Resolutions Fail

Hello, Fellow Travelers!

As we step into the second week of January, I want to pause and reflect with you. Statisticians often point out that by this time, many of us have already abandoned our New Year’s resolutions. If that resonates with you, don’t worry—you’re not alone.

Personally, I don’t set resolutions. Instead, I create a list of goals I’d like to accomplish throughout the year. It’s a flexible, evolving list that grows as I do. Today, I’d like to share a glimpse of my goals with you, not to boast but to inspire and encourage you to think about what matters most to you in this season of life.

Here’s a portion of my list:

  • Finish writing the children’s book manuscripts I’ve been storing for years.
  • Complete the fiction and non-fiction projects I’ve started.
  • Find ways to share my work and contribute to our household income.
  • Read through the Bible in a year.
  • Make more cross bracelets and keychains to give as gifts.
  • Honor God in my home.
  • Tithe faithfully.
  • Listen to and cooperate more with the Holy Spirit.
  • Say “yes” to godliness and “no” to ungodliness.
  • Join a church and actively participate.

Some of these are continuations of what I’ve already started, while others are entirely new adventures for me and my family.

One of my more practical goals is to exercise regularly. I’ve started riding a stationary bike—thank you, Goodwill! As my legs grow stronger, I plan to try a ballet DVD because dancing brings me so much joy. On the nutrition side, we’ve committed to eating at home to prioritize health and save money. Meal planning has been a game-changer for us: we create a weekly menu, shop on Saturdays, and post the plan on the fridge for accountability.

You might be thinking, That’s great for you, but my schedule is packed with appointments, kids, and endless obligations. Trust me, I understand. I’ve been there too. But here’s a gentle challenge: carve out two days and two hours that are just for you. Communicate this clearly to your family—ask your spouse and kids to step up and help. It’s okay to stop doing everything for everyone.

Of course, life doesn’t always cooperate. There will be moments when you or a loved one gets sick, or you’re too exhausted to exercise or stick to your Bible reading plan. It’s easy to feel defeated in those moments, but don’t let temporary setbacks derail you. When you’re ready, pick up where you left off. If you were reading the Book of Matthew and stopped at chapter 8, but your plan says you should be at chapter 14, start at 14. If you have time, go back to what you missed. Life moves forward, and so can you.

Remember, this journey is not about perfection—it’s about persistence.

Time passes quickly. Kids grow up, parents age, and we find ourselves at the end of our earthly journey sooner than we expect. Let’s make the most of the time we have. Be kind—it costs nothing but can mean everything to someone else. Love as many people as you can. And above all, praise God through it all.

You’ve got this, my friend. Let’s walk this road together.

God Bless You!

Psalm 13 Is Me!

How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved. But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the Lord because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

2023 was very difficult for me physically and financially. Long Covid twice that affected my neurological system and my ability to walk and maneuver my way around. A severed artery almost cost me my life and this last stay… Well, they are trying to figure it out today. Our finances are tight because of the hospital stays, doctor visits, and lab tests. Even with good insurance, there are bills to pay and prescriptions to buy. And in this economy everything is expensive! I am working on what they call a side hustle if I can stay well enough to do it. So, yes I feel defeated, beat down, and ask “Where are you, Jesus?”

Psalm 13 is me. First I complain and then I praise.

This continual assault upon my body and our finances has made me look to the Lord more than once and ask “Why?” You would think after 40 years, I would give up and tell Jesus to go away. But I don’t. I always say there is a reason for my suffering or, at least I am not a quadriplegic. Why? Because I love Jesus! He is my all and all! He is where I lay my head when I feel I can’t go on another day. He is with whom I walk in the stillness of the garden and rock in the safety of His arms.

Psalm 13 is me. First I complain and then I praise.

I am going to take Psalm 13 and reverse it this year. First I will praise and if I am having a difficult time, Jesus and I can discuss it. And, even though 2023 was the worst year I have ever had in my life, I plan on taking a positive attitude moving into 2024! Hopefully, I can document it on my blog and see the difference in my life through the blog.

What about you? I pray you are finding renewal in 2024, good health, and great abundance! God Bless You!

Love Remains

Easter weekend quickly approaches and some will be focused on the cross, and some on the chocolate bunnies.  I will be focused on Jesus and my new year with Him.  In case you don’t understand, I believe my new year to be Easter Sunday not January 1.  I do celebrate the changing of the yearly number, but it is more important to me to celebrate the changing of my soul each year.

We go through so much in a year.  Joys, sorrows, struggles, miracles; you name it, we humans experience it.  So I like to think of Good Friday as the day Jesus takes my past year to the middle of hell and leaves all the bad stuff there.  My brat ways, my control freak persona, my self-centered absorption, unkind words thought and said, and anything else along those lines.  Then Jesus brings back the better side of me, especially my heart.  And on Easter Sunday, I start a new Christian year!

HE IS RISEN INDEED!

Humans die, kingdom don’t last, fads fade away, countries rise and fall because nothing stays the same.  We are all evolving.  The one who has never changed and will never change is Jesus.  Love remains!

This year why not start a new year with me?  No resolutions or fad diets required.  Just the love of Jesus Christ in your life to share with others!

Love Remains by the Scott Family is the perfect video to explain how I feel.  Like I have said before, if I could sing, I would sing for you.  But I want to protect your ears!

I pray this music blesses you the way it blessed my heart!

God Bless You!
